Once again we're coming to the close of another fabulous, albeit challenging, publishing year and the time has come for the national media to make their picks for the ‘Best Books of 2020’ - and we’re thrilled to see so many Head of Zeus authors included again this year!

From the world of fiction, The Englishman by David Gilman was one of The Financial Times’ 'Best Thrillers of 2020' saying ‘The narrative goes at breakneck speed but between the action Gilman slowly and deftly unveils Raglan’s back-story.'

The Financial Times also included Hold Up the Sky by Cixin Liu in the 'Best Books of 2020: Science fiction' with James Lovegrove saying, 'The esteemed Chinese author’s second short-story collection grounds high-flying SF speculation in mundane settings and warmly parochial characters. The ideas are big (time travel, first contact with aliens, the end of the universe) but the focus is always on the human element.'

Moving onto non-fiction, The Sunday Times featured the wonderful No Modernism without Lesbians by Diana Souhami in their ‘Best Literary Non-Fiction,’ as chosen by Lucy Atkins, Providence Lost by Paul Lay was crowned one of the ‘Best History Books of the Year,’ as well Money for Nothing by Thomas Levenson was chosen by Martin Wolf as a Financial Times ‘Best Books on Economics,’ and The Arms Crisis 1970 by Michael Heneywas one of author Colm Toibin’s favourites as featured in the Irish Times. And The World Aflame by Dan Jones and Marina Amaral was selected as one of the Daily Mail's 'Best Illustrated Books of the year.'

In anthologies, the stunning ‘The Art of the Glimpse: 100 Irish Short Stories’ edited by Sinead Gleeson was chosen by fellow authors Anne Enright in The Observer, and Danielle McLaughlin for The Irish Times as one of their ‘Best Books of 2020’.

And last but by no means least, from our children's imprint ZEPHYR, author Amanda Craig selected The Time Traveller and the Tiger by Tania Unsworth as one of her Best Children's Books for the New Statesman.
